UAES VICE CHANCELLOR HAILS UZODINMA ON HEALTH INSURANCE FOR IMO WORKERS

The acting Vice Chancellor of University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences Umuagwo, Prof Christopher Chiedozie Eze, has commended the governor of Imo State, Sen Hope Uzodinma, on the recently launched health insurance for Imo workers.

According to Prof Eze, the health insurance for Imo workforce is a rare gesture of affection by the governor, adding that the state chief executive has clearly shown that the health of Imolites matters a lot to him.

In the words of the cerebral academic, “The health insurance coverage for Imo workers is a landmark achievement by the governor. The gesture is a rare show of love. It is symbolic because the governor is very much interested in the health of Imolites. Health, they say, is wealth. There is a nexus between productivity and a worker’s health. An unhealthy worker can hardly make an impact, much less create wealth. It is only when genuine work is done that wealth is created. Before now, we had thought of enrolling into the National Health Insurance, but the initiative of the governor to create the Imo State Health Insurance coverage made us to relax.

“Essentially, University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences is very happy with this development. It is commendable just as it is a morale booster. Besides the tens of thousands of Imo workers, I also learnt that the scheme will benefit the vulnerable of the society. It is equally commendable that at the wake of the inauguration of the health insurance for Imo workers, the governor would also officiate at the inauguration of the Federal University Teaching Hospital Owerri (formerly known as FMC Owerri). This too is a good development for the health value chain in the state. I am upbeat that it can only get better in the state.”

It will be recalled that upon assumption as acting Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Christopher Eze showed commitment to the health of the staff and students. He did this by taking deliberate steps to revamp the University medical centre by upgrading facilities at the centre. There are also plans to further improve services at the centre so as to accommodate the host community in receiving quality healthcare.
